A SYNTHESIS AND SOURCING GUIDE TO OVER THE COUNTER PYROTECHNICS – 2nd EDITION

A number of years ago I wrote and submitted to the forums a 20-page guide about over the counter pyrotechnics which contained information about chemical sourcing, production and useful star compositions (https://www.amateurpyro.com/forums/topic/13142-a-guide-to-otc-over-the-counter-pyrotechnic-composition/). Since then, this guide has been thoroughly updated to over 40 pages of information about chemical sourcing, chemical synthesis, pyrotechnic chemistry and new star colour compositions made entirely with OTC chemical. This guide contains information about sourcing/ synthesising the following chemicals from over the counter sources: Potassium Nitrate, Sulphur, Hardwood and Softwood Charcoal, Dextrin, Spherical and Flake Aluminium, MMO electrodes, Potassium Chlorate, Potassium Chloride, Barium Chlorate, Barium Carbonate, Copper Oxychloride and Copper Oxychloride Fungicide, Copper Oxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Carbonate, PVC power and PVC cement, Colophony, Shellac, Lactose, Sodium Oxalate, Strontium Carbonate, Red Iron Oxide, Hydrochloric acid, and Boric acid.

With these chemicals, I have developed a new potassium-chlorate-based coloured star system which I believe can be used by individuals in any nation. That is to say, the composition components can be sourced or made using only domestically available and unrestricted reagents. The most important of these formula is blue, which uses PVC cement as a chlorine donor and produces a vibrant and unmistakable colour, something broadly unattainable up until this point with only OTC chlorine donors. Below is a table containing these formula, and an image showing the colours produced.
