BizzarePyro Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Hey, I was wondering if the composition below would work for micro crackle stars. Just making sure before I spend a bunch of cash on Crackle star Chems and if not can you tell me a recipe for crackle stars that will work well?Bismuth triOxide - 35%CuO - 38%Mg/Al - 18%KClO4 - 4%NC - 5%
Medix87 Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Haven't tried that version but, this one i use often and works real nice! Bind with Nitrocellulose. 75% Bismuth trioxide15% Magnalium (-200 mesh)10% Copper (II) oxide5% Aluminium (200 mesh atomized)
BizzarePyro Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 Hey thanks for that response! Btw Im somewhat confused on what the - is before the 200 dose that mean is finer or is it more coarse
BizzarePyro Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 (edited) Never mind I found what size it is. Would fine mag/al work instead?(such as 200-325 mesh) Edited June 28, 2021 by BizzarePyro
BizzarePyro Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 How many times you need to ask the question? When I posted that the other time it was because I didnt know how to make a topic and I couldnt delete it
SharkWhisperer Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 Haven't tried that version but, this one i use often and works real nice! Bind with Nitrocellulose. 75% Bismuth trioxide15% Magnalium (-200 mesh)10% Copper (II) oxide5% Aluminium (200 mesh atomized)This is an old tried-and-true version. I split the bismuth and copper compounds 50:50 by weight (other ingredients stay the same; bind with NC to 3-5% final) to save some $$ on bismuth trioxide, and it works pretty much identically to the high-bismuth formulation. There's a shitload of prior threads on crackle/DEs, role of MgAl particle size & relationship to star size, role of supplemental Al, alternative recipes, and basic things like the meaning of mesh sizings. Like Rich said above, do a little homework to figure out whether -200+325 will work, and what mesh sizing terminology actually means--it's pretty basic working knowledge for fireworking with small particle chems. Or make a batch and report your results. Nobody's going to hold your hand and do diaper duty here.
