SharkWhisperer Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 (edited) Moving away from more toxic barium compounds, the US Army (Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland) reported in 2014 on balancing strontium and potassium nitrates with magnalium (various sizes tested) to get a less toxic strobe with an extremely slow flash rate (like 1-4/minute over approx 5 minutes using only 10g comp bound with 10% NC lacquer). Unsure about most amateur pyro utility but the results (and supposed mechanisms) are definitely interesting. Might give folks some ideas. I think a long-lasting strobing gerb firing every 15s might be fun! Thoughts?Slow Strontium Nitrate Strobes--US Army 2014.pdf Edited June 20, 2021 by SharkWhisperer
a_bab Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) And finally, after killing myself (really hard !) to tolerate your nauseating attitude you come up with this gem. Interesting find, I actually recently saw a use for it coming from Brasil: basically a sparkler with a very slow strobe compo on it (maybe 5 flashes per minute?) Edited June 23, 2021 by a_bab
