mabuse00 Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 This has probably been discussed a lot, but anyway: What increment sizes (compressed of course) have you succesfully used on your rockets, maybe we can exchange some examples.Since one can save a lot of time using bigger increments I'm curious where one starts pushing his luck... I had no problems using for example - on 10mm whistle rockets @8000psi, 2%wax: 8mm, -> 0,8id - on 15mm BP nozzleless @ 6000psi, pressed dry: 8mm, -> ~0,5id - on 19mm BP Endburners @4500psi, pressed dry: 6mm, -> ~0,3id (I've never tried to maximize them yet)
NeighborJ Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) I dont really mess with many smaller motors anymore but the 1lb (19mm) motors get a heaping teaspoon for their increments, all types and they all get 4500psi. 3lb (25mm) motors get 2 heaping teaspoons and all motor types still get 4500psi. Measuring an actual pressed increment height would be a pain. Edited January 23, 2021 by NeighborJ
a_bab Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I use a spoon from some infant formula can and it's been working well for me for the last 10 years.I only do 1# and 3# motors; for 1# I use 1 spoon/addition, the 3# takes 2 spoons. My spindles tend to be skinny for BP rockets. It works well I and never bothered to change what works for me.10 to 12 additions is what it takes in average for my nozzleless BP and I find this acceptable. With each such spoon addition, I get around 1/2 of the diameter after pressing. How I know this? I opened some pressed motors and the additions are visible.I did try the "lazy route" once, using 2 spoons for 1# but the CATOs quickly sent me back to the "right way".
Richtee Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I use a spoon from some infant formula can Hahahaha... we a resourceful bunch if nothing else. How old is the baby?
a_bab Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) Richtee, you've got me They are 14 and 15 now. Time flies... Edited January 26, 2021 by a_bab

mabuse00 Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 Measuring an actual pressed increment height would be a pain.A pen and a line on the rammer before pulling the tool from the press is quickly done. So 1/2 diameter... For measuring the amount while working I use can-spoons to, I've got a set intented fur reloading gun cartridges, only the spoons are to small for 1lb and bigger.
