Conure Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) Does anybody know if there's any big library of chemical reactions? I can only find some limited lists of reactions on various sites. There are also sites that can tell you how to balance chemical equations but they can't tell you if the reaction is possible in the first place. I'm interested in exotheric reactions such as thermite but I would like to know what the result is going to be in advance to avoid creating toxic things like carbon monoxide or hydrogen sulfide. Or simply if anything will happen at all. For example, I find no info about Si+MgSO4. Edited December 26, 2020 by Conure
robbo Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Try the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, published by CRC. Old copies are cheap. Might have what you want in there. Don't know if it's online, thouigh.
Mumbles Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 It is online, but at least the official one is not free. There are a few things like you describe, but most aren't free or would be hard to access without University access. Getting access to university libraries is probably your best bet. Here's a list for example: https://library.stanford.edu/databases/selected-chemistry-databases
Conure Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Thanks for replies. I did look at an old free onlibe version of the chemistry handbook mentioned but could only find a list of 100 reactions of which none were to my interest. Does anybody here know anything about reactions between metals and carbonates? Such as Mg+CaCO3. Edited December 28, 2020 by Conure
