SignalKanboom Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Can whistle and strobe mix be dried in a light box? Does it store well?
NeighborJ Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 It isn't a terriffic idea. No solvent is 100% free of moisture and heat accelerates reactions of incompatible chems in that moisture. Whistle should be fairly safe but it dries fast enough with air movement. If acetone or naptha doesn't dry fast enough for you then you shurely should start practicing patience.
SignalKanboom Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 I think its too cold to make it. It cant be safely made inside can it? How would the cold affect it if made outside?
NeighborJ Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I screen and granulate my chems outside then dry both strobe and whistle on a rack in my heated shed. I plan on me not being in the shed until the fumes are cleared, usually 2 or 3 hrs. The source of heat is far away from any live comp and is used to keep the shop above freezing. This is safe as long as it isn't a hermetically sealed confined space capable of building up explosive levels of VOC . It will dry outside even in freezing temps requiring extended drying times.
SignalKanboom Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Thank you, I have seen many amateur /young people make this stuff inside (on the internet) and it pisses me off. That has to be the fast track to hurting the hobbyists.

SignalKanboom Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 There are some videos of kids in their rooms making strobe and whistle with their bed, tv, and a fan right next to them. I was watching YouTube videos when I posted this question and it kind of ran into my response. Yes, the drying box is a wood box with a screen rack and a ceiling mount box with a cord pull on/off switch and a 60-100 watt light and usb fan in the bottom wired for a wall plug.
Piccaso Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Remember that static electricity is another issue during cold weather and can easily set off a lot of different pyro mixtures.
