Red go getter w/o Sr nitrate

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi, such a long time I haven't been posting something, so I just want to share a small success in a new composition of mine (I haven't found something using Sr Oxalate with "Red propellant" purposes in the literature).

If like for me, you don't have Strontium Nitrate, and want to make red go getters, here's a formula that uses Strontium Oxalate. Unfortunately I didn't made a video because I didn't expect it to work that good (surprised myself).

All chemicals are ball milled (except parlon) and the following mix sums up to 98.

KN : 25

KP : 30

MgAl (45 microns) : 13

Parlon : 17

Hexamine: 5

SrC2O4 : 5

RedGum : 3

Acetone is added just enough to have a dough (not as liquid as the classical go-getter mix), and then firmly pressed into small tubes.

A core is formed with a spindle.

Once dry, a visco piece is inserted (taped with aluminum tape uncovering only the last 2 mm, to have an ignition at the higher end of the core).

I'm really happy that this composition works as red go getter, just wanted to share...

Any comments welcomed, especially if someone thinks, this mix could have incompatibilities (SrC2O4 being not that commonly used in pyro, maybe flares with Mg?)
