efitzgerald Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 (edited) This is my first attempt at liquid fuel mines. It is also my first batch of homemade black powder. 6" x 20" steel mortar 1st fireball 110 grams of 2FA BP3" of water7.5" of gasoline .9 gallons Pretty happy with this one. 2nd fireball 80 grams of 2FA BP3" of water5" of gasoline .6 gallons This one didn't turn out too well. There was insufficient lift and the fuel burned on the ground. What do you think? Video.mov Edited September 28, 2019 by efitzgerald
efitzgerald Posted September 29, 2019 Author Posted September 29, 2019 (edited) I tried a few at night with: (IMG_5482) 110 grams of 2FA BP 3" of water 7.5" of gasoline .9 gallons The following morning I did one last test with the remainder of my 2FA bp. I used: 220 grams of 2FA BP 3" of water 14" of gasoline 1.7 gallons (I was going to use two gallons of fuel but it would have been to the top of the tube) I got distracted by something so the video is not so good (IMG_5484). What would be your suggestions for powder, water and fuel quantities? I am aware that without knowing the quality of the BP that I am using makes these experiments somewhat pointless. Mostly I was interested in seeing the effect firsthand and observing how likely it is to have a ground level fire. As I have stated I would like to use these effects in future shows. I have somewhat limited space so these would be close enough to my other fireworks to cause a problem if they spread burning fuel on the ground. In every test there is small amount (less than 5%) of residual BP in the mortar, is this normal? I am using 4oz PET plastic bottles for the 110 gram charge and 8oz PET plastic bottles for the 220 gram charge. The lids are sealed with hot glue and the E-match is in the center of the BP.
