pyroguy1030 Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Hello,I decided to try to machine my own rocket tooling with a shoreline mill and lathe that was left at the house I just moved into. Both are very small so I am limited on the size of stock I can use. After making these tools i know what i want to change but i thought I'd post it so see what ya'll think. Thank You.
Mumbles Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 You may find you'll want a few shorter rams. Depending on the taper of your spindle, the gap between the cored rammed and the spindle will continue to get wider and you may start getting comp pinched in there. Having a few shorter rammers also helps to prevent the rammer from cocking off to one side and bending your spindle.
pyroguy1030 Posted June 1, 2019 Author Posted June 1, 2019 Thanks for the input. I currently only have 2 rammers. A cored rammer and a solid rammer for after the spindle, so I'll plan on making some shorter cored ones. I just finished pressing it can't wait to send it off. I had a question regarding the spindle. Is there a benefit to having a spindle threaded to the base of the tooling? I didn't have a hard time removing the rocket but I've seen a few people with a threaded spindle.
