MadMat Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 (edited) I cut down some Catalpa trees A.K.A. "Cigar trees" today and since they are a soft wood, I wondered what quality of charcoal this would make. My research only came up with a site that made a vague reference to it being similar to Paulownia, but I wasn't sure if it meant the wood or the quality of the charcoal So I cooked an experimental batch of charcoal and will be making a batch of BP with it. Anyone know or have experience with this wood? If it turns out that the site was correct, that will be great as I got a lot of that wood Edited May 6, 2019 by MadMat
Arthur Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 It's always worth a try if you have good access to trees, Pick a method accurately and test two known woods and your new wood then you could place the new wood on a scale of useless to useful or even too hot.
MadMat Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 Some time ago, I did baseball flight time tests for my BP, so I have a baseline to start.
