They are a good read.

I have 1-6, and find them interesting and helpful, overall.

I have mixed feelings about this series. I read 2-4 so long ago that I can't remember how much of an effect they had on my perspective and knowledge. There is certainly some dated information in the earlier editions, and frankly some of the sections seem to lack merit. $146 seems steep, but pyro literature is expensive. I would buy Hardt or Shimizu or some editions of pyrotechnica before the AFN series. On the other hand, $146 puts a lot of shells in the air!

You mean the ones on pyrobin.com

It's pretty obvious they are unauthorized copies, you know just to clarify.

Another I am looking at is "Fireworks - The Art, Science and Technique by Takeo Shimizu". It appears to be a good read with alot of info. I see you recommend Shimizu and I have seen other people that recommend him so maybe I'll go with that for now. IIRC Ned Gorski stated in one of his videos "if Shimizu said it, I believe it." Which is a real big plus.
