memo Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) can you sub goma laca (shellac ) for red gum , or would phenic resin be better. i have no red gum Edited December 18, 2018 by memo
AustralianPyromaniac Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) My guess is you're talking about Hardt Red #1 which has shellac as well as red gum? Hardt Red #1 Potassium Chlorate (63 Parts) Strontium Carbonate (21 Parts)Red Gum (8 Parts) Shellac (3 Parts) Dextrin (5 Parts) If so, then you certainly can sub out the shellac for red gum. This has in fact already been done by Hardt himself and is Hardt Red #2 Hardt Red #2 Potassium Chlorate (63 Parts) Strontium Carbonate (18 Parts)Red Gum (14 Parts) Dextrin (5 Parts) If you dont have red gum you can do a 1:1 substitution with phenolic and get pretty similar burn characteristics. In my personal experience a 1:1 substitution with Vinsol resin gives a better colour. So thats also an option if you have it. Regards, AP Edited December 18, 2018 by AustralianPyromaniac
