My ball mill needed a good clean so I decided to do that so I could mill some perch. Anyone once I opened it up I noticed what seemed to be BP stuck to the walls, I got an old toothbrush and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed but nothing happened. Anyone recommend harsher Chems? I was thinking some carbon disulphide to dissolve the sulphur and Id put that in a waste bucket then wash the charcoal and kno3 out with a high pressure hose. Any ideas?

Hot soapy water and a long soak.

Thanks, I tried that but to no avail. The barrel is made of hard plastic. I’m guessing the media has worn the plastic down a bit and caked the black powder into it. Might need to get new barrels. Cheers

Mill some bentonite!

But if it doesn't come clean with warm soapy water then it isn't BP or perc based, so what have you been milling?

I’ve been milling bp, kno3, sulphur I think that’s it, I’ll try bentonite and let you know how it goes. I may also try anhydrous calcium chloride and then put it in my safe with lots of calcium chloride and hopefully everything is dry as a bone to be scraped out. If not bye bye barrel

Fill half way with water, put your milling media in and turn her on for a few hours. It'll scrub it right out for you.. and it cleans your media as well! If you want to, use a little laundry detergent or dish washer soap you can. Just make sure you use something that doesn't foam up..
