BetICouldMake1 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) So I ordered 10 dr11 HDPE mortars from pyro direct and the ID on them is all over the place. I wasn't super impressed when they arrived with the ends cut jagged and not square and stapled end plugs, many not flush with the tube bottom due to the uneven cuts. They are meant to have a 1.91 ID but range from ~1.85-1.9. Almost all of them are visibly out of round. Is this normal or just poor product? My understanding what that HDPE tubes are extruded and are therefore more consistent than rolled fiberglass tubes. Should I have any concerns over performance? The tubes being out of round noticeably affects the fit of shells, especially if they are close to being true 1.75 with a thicker leader/fuse. Edited August 11, 2018 by BetICouldMake1 1
OldMarine Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 All I've ordered from them have been of good quality and construction but it's been a few years. I order the mighty mite one piece guns now.
chuckufarley Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I've never ordered mortors from them, but hdpe pipe can have some slight dents, out of round variations due to the extrusion process. If your shells still fit I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if not, then you might want to look into another supplier. I get all of my mortors from Russ at Platte river. The ends are chamfered, plugs are screwed or bolted with counter sunk holes, and the customer service is excellent. http://www.platteriverfireworks.com/hdpe-mortars/ 1
