vinny1892 Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Does anyone know or have anyclue what a thermobaric bottom shot is? Im curous as to what they had used for powder. Im do know what bottom shots are... Normally HE is used with thermobaric devices... least i believe from what ive read. HE and pyro dont mix least ive never seen it in the 4 yrs ive been shooting. Hope someone can help thanks.
WonderBoy Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) Is this the shell you are referring to? I won't speak to the exact mix in that shell, but it's not HE. Most likely a fuel heavy comp designed to use a combo of oxidizers, including atmospheric oxygen. The builder is known for experimenting with flash type comps and configurations, very active on the ground salute line. WB Edited April 22, 2018 by WonderBoy
vinny1892 Posted April 22, 2018 Author Posted April 22, 2018 That be the vid. And so it is a flash based comp then?? Intresting
Arthur Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 There are lots of variants on flash powder! If you can get the ignition right then you don't need to send much oxidiser up, atmospheric air will do the job well enough. It's a technique that goes back to the 250 pound photoflash units dropped in WW2 -First spread the powder, then ignite it (after a calculated interval measured in microseconds).
vinny1892 Posted April 22, 2018 Author Posted April 22, 2018 Thats awesome. Never knew we dropped flash in ww2!!! Thats some sketchy shit if you think about it..
Arthur Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 The technology with the photoflash units was intended to produce a lot of light so that photos could be taken at night. As the aluminium metal flakes block light they had to spread the powder into the air and then ignite it, therefore it burned with atmospheric oxygen so they could get aluminium in the case where (per)chlorate would have been.
