Hello,,

I've tried to make quickmatch with some unsuccessfull attempts.

I've prepared BP with fine KNO3----------------75parts

Sulfur-----------------10parts

Airfloat Charcoal---15parts.

All were in fine quality & screenmixed.

I added some ricestarch to make it a slurry, dipped thin cotton string and rubbed with the slurry so BP reacheS inner layers of the strIng.

Dried it under Sun.

When ignited it burnt like little slow match.

What I want to prepare is it should burn 1-1.5ft/sec.

I need to prepare this to light a series of gerb simultaneously or use it for shell construction

Please advice........of course Thanks in advance.

Quick match is only black match with a paper sleeve round it. The flame front passes along inside the paper tube keeping the energy inside and the flame front moving very fast Usually there would be four or five cotton strands, individually or together coated in BP slurry inside a paper sleeve. Sometimes there is also a plastic layer for moisture resistance.

IMO the cotton only holds the powder it's the outer layer of powder that fuels the flame.

Put a sleeve on the match and see the magiq.

Skc,

If not done already, you might build a blackmatch machine. It's easy (I made some picture Of how to build one in my gallery, step by step, so easy), and I don't regret because each strand is coated with BP and once the black match is piped, you have the speed you need! Just use 75-15-10 + 3 dext , Willow or hemp, and you're done. Ned's video here is also a must.

Find a plastic milk bottle ( https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.recyclenow.com%2Fsites%2Ffiles%2Frecyclenow%2Fstyles%2Fcustom_thumbnail%2Fpublic%2Fmedia_wysiwyg%2Fplastic%2520milk%2520bottles%25201.jpg%3Fitok%3D-V19ywMa&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.recyclenow.com%2Fwhat-to-do-with%2Fmilk-bottles-0&docid=Xz0BwDAjBN5rAM&tbnid=CN9h7ATPH5BzbM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwj2j5DT_JvaAhVJKMAKHbcVC2MQMwinAigAMAA..i&w=270&h=190&bih=794&biw=1440&q=plastic%20milk%20bottles&ved=0ahUKEwj2j5DT_JvaAhVJKMAKHbcVC2MQMwinAigAMAA&iact=mrc&uact=8 )

Remove the side opposite the handle nail the three sided pot to the floor thread string(s) through the handle then part fill the pot with a slurry of BP milled powder and some binder and some water. Pull string so that it rises up the side near the screw cap. Pull slowly and wind onto a big frame above the pot. Pulling the string will stir the slurry and remove both water and powder. Once the string is dry make into groups of 3 - 5 threads and enclose in a Kraft paper sleeve. Further enclose in brown packing tape if some moisture resistance is needed. Use a small bottle to make a little match or a gallon bottle to make match by the mile.
