rellim Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Is vinsol really equivalent to red gum? It seems to be insoluble in both acetone and alcohol. I stirred some up with alcohol and waited for the alcohol to completely evaporate. The residue was the original fine powder. At the moment I don't have any red gum to compare against (10 bucks plus 11 for shipping).
pyrokid Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I have substituted Vinsol resin for red gum in some dextrin bound compositions with little or no change in performance. I'm not sure of its solvent properties though.
rellim Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 Vinsol is inferior to red gum for pyrotechnics in every way. Thanks for your reply. I ordered red gum today. Maybe the prime will stay on the starts now.
