WonderBoy Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Pre-Flight pic: http://pyrotechnics.no-ip.org/files/img_1871.jpg After the pic was taken i spiked the header with strapping tape. Video:http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9024228219565346086 It had a FireFly #3 delay. The salute at the end was supposed to be red. It was red in real life but it wasnt picked up on the camera.
hst45 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 WonderBoy, nice rocket, and a very nice vid. I love the unearthly red glow at launch. It reminds me of "The X-files." What was the fuel used?
optimus Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Any chance you could upload the vid the the APC filehost? My stupid mac doesn't like google.video...
itwasntme Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 wow, beautiful! Was that a 2 foot bamboo garden stick you used?
WonderBoy Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 http://www.apcforum.net/files/RedRocket325MgAlRedFlash.mpg Red Magnalium Chuffer Sky Rocket Dave Stoddard Strontium Nitrate 55% Magnalium, -325 mesh powder 28% PVC powder 10% Parlon 7% Vaseline (dissolved in Naphtha) +2% I omitted the Vaseline, but for a bigger rocket you'd probably need it. It was pressed on Standerd cored BP tooling. Yep it was a 3' bamboo garden stick, but sometimes if thier too skinny I use 4' sticks.
cplmac Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Nozzle? I just noticed this thread, for some reason the competition forum is not giving me the new messages indicator. Nice rocket.
optimus Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Mmmm that was nice. Tasty chuffing. Thanks for putting it on the filehost.
WonderBoy Posted April 28, 2007 Author Posted April 28, 2007 The nozzle was 1 ID tall, bentonite clay.
pyroduck7 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 thats a verry nice red! how much flash did yuo use for the report? personally i dont like fuels like that i like good old BP
WonderBoy Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 It was about 3/4tsp. I generally stick to bp as well because of the ease of manufacture and because of cost. I do enjoy a good red rocket every once in a while, even though they have a nasty habit of melting my launch tubes..
Seymour Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Indeed it was a good rocket. Now you have had two years to get the headers to become a bit more creative than the old flash. Come up with anything?
FrankRizzo Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Nothing wrong with good ol' "safety powder" in my opinion. It helps remove the spent casing from the rocket stick, so there's less chance of accidents when the rocket comes back down.
WonderBoy Posted December 1, 2012 Author Posted December 1, 2012 Just thought I'd embed the video since neither of the original links work: WB
