dagabu Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 There have been many attempts at putting together a rocket launch at PGI but it has never gotten traction. I am proposing a commitment from as many of the rocket builders to make 25-50 rockets each for a mass launch during the daytime (4PM?) one evening at PGI in Mason City. If you are interested, lets decide on a design, fuel and report so they are as much alike as possible. The ones look to be 12 mm (1/2"?) by 100 mm (4"?) long and have a small (5 gram?) salute atop. Please give me your feedback as my son Jarrod is one of the rocket line guys and I can work with them to get this off the ground if there is enough interest. https://youtu.be/diBk25yHjZI?t=173
Baldor Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Let me know if you want some info about the rockets used in the "descarga", I can ask.
dagabu Posted July 19, 2017 Author Posted July 19, 2017 Absolutely! All the information I can get! I also need to know about the racks and sticks, tubes and nozzles etc. Thank you!
Baldor Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 https://youtu.be/8MEJ9v7vhvU?list=PL8OLxdTxPkajyhzOYxVl1TwkuC-VcvX3d https://youtu.be/ipwX91K9dDs?list=PL8OLxdTxPkajyhzOYxVl1TwkuC-VcvX3d I think in this videos you can see more details about the racks. Also, look at the images at the end of this article: http://www.pirofan.com/reportajes/115-cangas-de-narcea/184-que-es-la-descarga Ignition is very straightforward. There is a groove in the center of the racks, where all the fuses lay. Once ignited the first rocket, its exhaust ignites the fuse for the next one. The wider the groove, the slowest the propagation. I will try to get more details about the rockets, and detailed images of the racks, I should make some calls tomorrow to find the right contact. You are late for this year descarga, was 07/16. https://www.descargacangas.com/
dagabu Posted July 19, 2017 Author Posted July 19, 2017 Fantastic information Baldor! I see where square tubing is used to launch a battery of rockets almost instantly. I also see that round dowels are used for the sticks, I wonder if this cheaper to do it this way? I can bulk order 1000, 36" dowels for $160.00 or $0.16 each.
Baldor Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Not all the rockets are the same in a descarga, Dave. There is a progression from smaller reports to the bigger ones, and also there is a progression in the timing. (You can see some mortars at the end). In some rockets, the sticks are simply canes, the kind you can find near a river, not bamboo not anything fancy. But I think the work to collect them is not worth the savings. Also, the sticks are a little longer than needed, to guarantee a vertical flight. They are "overbalanced". It will be a little difficult to get more detailed info this week. They are still celebrating until Sunday.
