Hobby Chemical Supply No Nitrate or Perchlorate

Does anyone know why HCS no longer has potassium nitrate or perchlorate listed for sale? It looks like they are lacking alot of items they used to sell.

That's strange. PyroChemSource and Fireworks Cookbook have them reasonably priced and in stock.

I hope HCS isn't going away!

I hope so too. He was the first person I bought the very first drk aluminum from back when perchlorate was allowed on ebay back in 2005. I have since then bought other items every so often and always had great quality and price. With the political climate getting to where it's at today, I fear it's going to be a real tough situation for suppliers to stay in buisness with sales dropping due to paranoia of getting into trouble for having anything pyro unlicensed. :(

I actually heard from the grape vine there selling everything then closing down. :-(

Sounds about right. Ive emailed him multiple times, called and txted him and no response back. Guess ill have to look into some other sources of cheap chemicals. I mainly just need the basics for Bp and perchlorate. I think im stocked on enough of the metals at least.

I got mine yesterday. I didn't use it for anything yet but when I was separating it into 5 pound bags it was nice and fluffy with no clumps. Looks like good stuff.

Ya i felt it through the bag and it almost feels like powdered sugar to me. I didnt want to open the bag and get it everywhere and expose it to the air yet until i am ready to use it.

Pyro is a minority hobby so suppliers have a small market and may find that their life changes and they don't want to be tied to a small low profit business. It's quite normal in any industry for new suppliers to open and older suppliers fade away, reduce stockholding or simply stop trading. In reality the one person in a one man business can get sick, retire or even die without giving notice. It's one of the hazards of dealing with small suppliers, BUT most of the big chemical suppliers will not sell by the pound and some not to individuals. Companies of high repute may get poor of the one person suffers ill health.
