passgas Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Getting every thing together for a ball mill. It is going to be a 6" inside dia pvc about 8" long not counting the mouth. Caculated jar speed of 77 rpm. I will be using lead balls cast at .6 either all wheel weights or a combo of wheel weights/linotype. Half full of lead balls in jar.My question is lift bars. Do I need them? If so how many, what size, and what to use. Thanks
lloyd Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 You don't need lifter bars in that mill. If you run it at (approximately) the rpms you suggest, and run it with a 25-30% fill of BP ingredients, it will cascade properly, and give you good milling. Lifter bars are usually employed with 'wet milling', where it's important to stir up the contents, or in issues where the mill MUST be run significantly under-charged. Your mill sounds to be optimized to work fine without them. Lloyd
passgas Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 Thanks. I should make my jars tomorrow after I get some fresh pvc cement.
