dynomike1 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Can someone give me some tips about videoing fireworks? I finally have a descent video camera and i can video by hand, but i had rather watch. I guess where i need help is setting up a tripod. How far away do i need to get to video from 3" to 10" shells, and stuff like that.
dagabu Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Mike, There really is no one size fits all when it comes to video. For fronts shots, you need a wide angle lens rather close up to catch the ground effects. Back up 200' and you have a good mid to long range shot but you miss the depth and for that you need a drone. Decide what you want to see and set the camera for that width and distance. I had all 8" shells to shoot this fall, I got to set the camera and open the shutter, the shells did the rest. With video, set the lens to infinity and turn the focus off. Open the iris all the way up and use the shutter speed to control the light. Use the ISO to dial in the colors and light, see if your lens is hungry enough for ISO 100 (I would be REALLY impressed).
dynomike1 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Posted November 26, 2016 The only ground effects that might happen is a canister blowing in the tube, but i am not seeing building any as of right now except some salutes going up right behind the 10" at the very end. Maybe a 3" to start with. Every time i build a bunch of canisters i have one that blows in the tube, then all hell brakes loose. I will study on what you said. So what i need is 120'H X 400W = 3" to 320 X 1050 = 10". Think i can get that with one setting? Our distance from tubes will be 300yds or less..
dagabu Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Depends on the lens size. I have an 18mm lens that will take in a whole 12" shell at the minimum stand off but a 3" shell barely breaks the window I am viewing and I only get 1/2 the break. So, probably not.
Arthur Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Currently I use a pair of Kaiser Baas (imi gopros) set to auto. Place them on a block above the grass level about half way to the crowd. One pointing about 10 deg up the other about 30 deg up. There is usually enough stock there to edit a nice vid out.
dynomike1 Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 I guess ill have to video it myself.
