I am doing an experiment by mixing strontium carbonate and zinc powder together to see what i get, hoping for a yellow. But my money is on that i end up with a orange with a green envelope. Maybe red with a green envelope.

My composition is

Potassium perchlorate 30%

Strontium carbonate 25%

Zinc 20%

Aluminium 10%

Parlon 15%

Red gum 5%

All parts by weight, i know it dosnt add up to 100% but its just an experiment.

Has anybody else tried this or similar? ?

Have you really got something against a sodium compound??? Try sodium oxalate it doesn't absorb water.

I am really just playing with what i have on hand. Half the fun of this hobby is the trail and error.

Atm moment i just dont have the money to buy anymore chems, once i do i will be trying crackling stsrs/dragons eggs. Emerald greens.

I am only just getting back into things, so slowly slowly lol

If you want a true optical yellow, a barium salt would be the ideal choice over zinc. I understand you may not have any on hand of course. I can't say I've ever tried anything similar. Let us know how it turns out.

If you have the chems for red and green comps you can mix and match for yellow and orange. Saves buying chems you may have a limited use for.

At present i only have chems for red and blue, carbonate only. But i have a heap of zinc for granite stars thanks to where i work.

Well now my stars have dried properly, i can say this.

It didnt work lol

What i ended up with was a flame orange with a green envelope.

That was a static test but i dont think i will bother with testing anymore. I have just used most of it as seed cores for star rolling. Was fun and a learning experience lol
