We always prime srars. Sometimes a two part prime and sometimes step prime. Stars don't ignite well without prime generally speaking.

Pillbox stars have various compositions so it seems they would also be primed. Of course they can't be -so would it make sense to add silicon to your black match slurry to aid ignition?

I'm quickly becoming a fan of silicon in all my primes to add the hot slaggy blobs it produces.
