3 Weeks of Pyro Fun

Recommended Posts

I am running just one Pyro holiday next year 2017.

A special 21 day holiday that takes in the best pyro events in Thailand including rocket festivals, line rat competitions and Talai launches. As always we will be spending time at my workshop building shells and shooting all kinds of pyro.

Great food, amazing fireworks and some superb trips around the country to places of interest will make this the best holiday we have organized in the past 5 years.

I already have one guy reserved his place and another couple interested. We only have 7 places available so if you want in on this you will need to book early.

Exact dates are not set in stone yet as I need to juggle dates to get in all the events we plan to visit but we are looking at beginning the holiday at the end of April.

Cost/booking conditions can be found on my website.

Partners not keen on the pyro side are most welcome, we will have activities planned for them during our building time at the workshop.

I just put together a video compilation of clips taken over the past 5 years of holidays to give an idea of what to expect.

During the past week I have confirmed bookings from another 4 pyros for next years 3 week holiday.

Ned Gorski and his wife, Bob Hollenback and Tom Dimock. With 2 others who booked earlier in the year this brings the numbers up to 6 so we now have only two available places left for next year. Want to join us? better get in quick.

With such a distinguished group coming next year I think I will be learning more than I will be teaching.

Just a few weeks to go now our 2017 pyro holiday begins. We are now fully booked.

I spent the past couple of months getting everything ready, apart for doing some major renovations to my workshop I made 50 kg of B.P lift/burst and Polverone and over 100 kg of cut and pumped stars in all sizes and colours for our cylinder shell building time. We plan to build some big multi breaks this year including some Maltese shells and they sure use up a lot of materials. Very excited to have some well known 'old snorts' out on this years trip; going to be a lot of fun.

Am taking reservations now for 2018, not sure if it will be a 14 or 21 day holiday yet but it will be in May same as this year. These holidays take a lot of preparation and hard work to organize; I'm 60 years old now I doubt I will be running them for many more years to come.

Paul. I wish I could join n sa keo one day for your holidays... But I happen to be in Trat every 2-3 years (next time probably in 2018...). Would you mind if I stop an hour at your workshop next time, just to see à real Pyro company from inside. In the country I'm living, this is just impossible...

Our Pyro Holiday starts in 3 days, I'm picking up one guy from the airport tonight.

I have a youtube webcam feed set up in the workshop and hope to schedule a few sessions where anyone can just open my youtube channel and see live what we are building in the day or setting off in the evenings. It won't be on all the time but you should be able to see the 'event schedule' on the youtube page

The link is here look for 'Bangkok Pyro Live'

Ned Gorski, Tom Dimock and the other pyro holiday guys all arrived in Bangkok over the past few days and today are doing a bit of sightseeing in the city. Making the trip from Bangkok to our workshop in the countryside tomorrow morning.

I have a live youtube feed set up for so far on the following days.

5th May. Building a 'small' 15 kg Thai rocket at a local Thai builders house from 11.00 hrs Thai time but the battery on my laptop runs out :) We will be pressing the comp, drilling out the core, fitting the 'tail' and preparing the ignition components. Rocket will be fired on the 14th May.

6th May starting at 10.30 hrs. Our first day of shell building where we will be starting the construction of 4 three break 6 inch shells. Hoping to get the cases rolled filled and spiked in one long day.

7th May at 9.00 hrs (Subject to permission to film from Alfredo Martarello) This day Mr Martarello will be showing us from start to finish how to construct a typical 3 break with bomba Italian shell. 1 break with inserts and coloured stars, 2 with canolli. All the inserts and breaks are broken with flash and the shell dry wrapped.

8th May 09.30 - 12.00 and 13.00 to 17.00 hrs Follow us while we progress with our shell building.

I made it to Thailand for boun bang fai and will be heading down from Nong Khai festival to Yasathon. I would love to meet up with your party. (I wanted to do this at Wang Talang Nai but I can't even find it on the map). I'll have to keep my ears open for American accents. Edited by carbonhalo

Damn.... Rockets have been cancelled in Nong Khai. And quite a few other places it seems.

TAT has been very unhelpful. At least I know the Yasothon is still on. I've seen the launch scaffolds.

Sorry carbonhalo I saw your post too late to have been of any help to you, there were rocket festivals all over the north east of Thailand and in Sakgeow province during the period you were there, if you had called my mobile number on my website I could have pointed you in the right direction.

Our holiday came to a close the day before yesterday after travelling 4000km around the country visiting rocket festivals, Talai festivals and taking a side trip into Cambodia to visit Angkor temple. We spent a week at my workshop and made some great shells. There are a load of videos documenting the trip over on fireworking forum.

I will only be running the holiday now another 2 years so if you want the chance to join us drop me a line. next year I am planning 2 sessions, one in May, the other in December.

A few clips of some of the shells we made this year. Footage by Ned Gorski.
