Caramanos2000 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 I have been trying to make lift for my 1" mortars with Bp but its very hard. I was wondering how many .5" lead balls I should use in a 3Lb mill and for how long I should mill, its a chicago electric tumbler. I can currently launch the shell about 40' with 2g but it seems exesive for such a shell. My bp seems very fast. Should I try to granulate it (God I hate doing that)? How big should the granules be, about the size of lift from a roman candle?
Mumbles Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 There are plenty of other threads on black powder and lift. Please use them from now on. This isn't UK Rocketry, we don't condone 30 threads on the same topic. http://www.apcforum.net/forums/index.php?a...s&highlite=lift To answer your question, yes granulation will probably help. 2g is fine for a lift charge though. With shells that small it's hard to get away with the 1/16 ratio. I'd run them through a 12 or 16 mesh screen, which is standard window screening.
Caramanos2000 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Roger, sorry about that. I appreciate the answer also, most mods would just close it and kick me from the topic ! Thanks.
