DaMounty Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Got tired of milling small batch's. So I upped my game.Followed Ned's article. 1/2 HP 1725 RPM motor - 5" 1/2 gallon jars....DaM
DaMounty Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 No, only item I could not get yesterday. It's on order though. ...DaM
OldMarine Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 How did your costs compare to those in Ned's article? I'm about to start budgeting for a new mill.
DaMounty Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Purchasing items in Canada one cannot compare pricing with Ned's. Aside from the mill jar costs I have about $300 into it.
DaMounty Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Well it turned out to NOT be the hottest I've made to date. 500 gram batch's 2 hrs milling time. The only thing I did not do on both these batches was screen all of the material together a few times. Would that be the difference? Or cut the batch size down to 450 grams? DaM
lloyd Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 No DaM,A ball mill will both mix and grind. I've never bothered to even aggregate my chems. I'd just throw in the saltpeter, then the charcoal, then the sulfur -- and turn it on. IF your vessel is prone to pushing things to one end of the jar quickly (say, for not being exactly level), it cannot HURT to pre-mix, but it's usually not necessary. In that case, you'd probably end up with a mass of (relatively) un-ground material at one end, anyway. That can contribute to slowness. LLoyd
