Sparx88 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 So now I have a set recipe that works good in all the size rockets I make from 1/4" to 1#.This has eliminated catos due to fuel. Use good tubes. 43.75 grams 60/30/10 standard pine rocket fuel. milled.43.75 grams 75/15/10 eastern red cedar.(general purpose) milled12.50 grams 80 mesh pine charcoal Mix well and rice with 91% isopropyl alcohol through a fine mesh screen.Finer the better. Hand ram or press as you wish. If you want to also add a metal fuel for bright tail, reduce the 80 mesh pine to 8 grams and replace it with 4.5 grams of the metal.Using magnal 200 mesh granular, alcoa aluminum or small flake firefly have been used succesfully 5/16 i.d. motor specs 30# recycled kraft2" long.070 (1/16") wall thickness(I add 1 layer of 2" fiberglass reinforced strapping tape before ramming/pressing for good measure.) tool spindle spec1 1/8" total length1/8 " recessed convergent knozzle former.125" x 1/4" long parallel for knozzle,75" final spindle length tapered from .125" to .10" A static test without delay and a nightime flight with firefly delay and a 1/2" leftover star. These will lift an 8 gram header over the trees. The next round of testing will determinethe absolute maximum they will lift to a good height. static 516 MRFR.mp4 516 MRFR firefly delay flight.mp4
