Mardec Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Hey I just recently remembered that I have 200 gram of 400 mesh alu. The only thing is that is is coated with some crap that makes it leafing/almost inert and airflowt. In short, I want this crap out of my aluminium (probably stearin). Any tips? I was thinking acetone but will that work? I don't have access to a lot of powerfull solvents like ether of petrolium ether.. Chloroforum I do have but it is expensive and carcinogen.. Any sugestions?
Mumbles Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Acetone or coleman's camping fuel are probably the most common solvents for your purpose. Place some of it in a container and swirl it around, let it sit for a while, and filter it off.
Chris Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Mumbles, have you tried that out yourself? If so, did it work? I'm stuck with a few kgs of that horrible Al, and it would be great to turn it into something usable.
Mumbles Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I don't have any overly coated Al, so I've never had to. I know other people who have done it though.
Mardec Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Acetone is not the best way to go.. Use camping fuel or so. I didn't get the coating completly off with acetone, although it is better now and can be used for effect stars. Thanks mumbles
