lloyd Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 B,For a hex jar, you must go with the larger i.d., which prevents centrifuging, at the cost of losing a bit off optimum for the inner wall i.d. (but not enough to adversely affect you). A lot of guys just love the Rebel jars. I don't own one, but next time I need any new jars, I'll probably opt for a couple myself. Lloyd
Col Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Hi B. The mill uses a 3/4hp motor, with an overall reduction of around 53:1, there`s no shortage of torque. 50% charge of leadhttps://youtu.be/SAm5N_dveiQ 50% charge of ceramichttps://youtu.be/UUUATlxURaE hankook star roller driven by the mill, i dont know what the tyre weighs but its not light
WannabePyroPro Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Problem for me is, im not a single bit handy when it comes to mechanics/electronics, or well i e never tried.. So i dont know where to start So i think i will just buy myself one from china for now!
WannabePyroPro Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 All i want is to be able to make good BP. It doesnt have to be more than 200-300g each batch. Which mill do you think i should go for? Ive searched on different china websites(aliexpress etc) and cannot find these cheap mills youre talking about.. Which site did you find these?Best regards!
schroedinger Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Wnnabe you can find it normally on ebay, aliexpress or at DHgate. Just search for rotary tumbler and have a look at the picture ond description which mill it is. If it is the kt-6808 you got the wrong. You need at least at kt-2000 or similar/bigger sized type.
WannabePyroPro Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Found one i like, really hope its not scam

A search for "kt-2000 rotary mill" included two links on the first page of results to alibaba. Of course, now I am wishing I was part of this community 10 years ago when I went to china, I could have brought back a few with me to spread around, heh. Edited January 16, 2016 by starxplor
Geezer Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I am a beginner as well and offer my recent experience for consideration. I made my first BP last August by following the methods outlined at fireworking.com. I made a TLUD cooker from a paint can and used cedar shavings (pet bedding) bought for $7 from Walmart to make the charcoal. I bought a Harbor Freight mill for $45 and spent another $20 to "optimize" it (speed it up to about 80 RPMs). Bought hardened lead media for $25 or so from Woodys Store (https://squareup.com/market/WoodysCreations). Added coal, KNO3, S and milled for 2 1/2 hours. Added 75% alcohol 25% water and granulated through a 4 mesh SS screen (bought from Mcmaster-Carr for $15 or so) and air dried for a few days. Re-granulated the dried BP through the 4 mesh screen again and sorted into various sizes. Shot a baseball out of a mortar with .4 oz of the -4 +8 size BP and got 8.3 sec. average flight. Looking at the charts this compares pretty favorably to the BP Ned made. The downside is the mill is pretty anemic when loaded and I have had to give it a push to get going. I have also had some trouble with the barrel wandering up and down the rollers and stalling the mill. I need a new mill! :-) I know you are in EU and may not be able to economically access the sources I referenced but following means and methods researched and tested by other experienced "pros" allowed this noob to achieve relative success right from the start.
Ubehage Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Thank you all! What do you think about the CIA-method?The CIA-method is fine for making BP. In many aspects, it's much easier than most other methods. However, as others also have mentioned, it's not nearly as good as ballmilled BP. Think of it as you driving the newest Volvo: It works, it's safe and really easy to use and service. But it's no Lamborghini!

I respectfully disagree, it is the most expensive and still not nearly as powerful as making it with a cheap ballmill, hot water and a little dextrin and hot charcoal can be made by hand almost anywhere in the world. http://nineball.ve.carpathiahost.net/rat/compositions/ciabp.html Not safe at all, hot plate and alcohol fumes, wasteful as you squeeze out a lot of the materials... 1
Ubehage Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 All i want is to be able to make good BP.I just thought about when you need to granulate your BP. It's a bit messy process, whichever way you choose to do it.I prefer this way, as demonstrated by BangkokPyro. It also gives you a "little bit" better BP, because you need only half the Dextrin.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6gE8wkTPdE
