stix Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Well well well, isn't that a lot better!!.... Over the last few months it seems to have been getting worse, much worse. Pop-up ads, tailored to what you've been viewing or searched for on Google. Most of the Adverts have been "designed" for my personal viewing pleasure. A typical example - in no particular order, except for the order that "I" purposefully put it in (or unless google told me what to think):UHD Flat Screen TV'sTablet ComputersLoad CellsLoad Cell AmplifiersTake-Away Food DeliveryComputer Programming CoursesAsian Women Dating Sites (I shouldn't have said that)Alcohol Rehabilitation Clinics (perhaps I've said too much)I should get out more . We are not just at the precipice of this technology, we have been pushed over the edge (without our full consent or understanding) and are tumbling down the rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland. I'm all for targeted advertising but it should be when we want it. It should be an "OPT IN" service. The default seems to have been chosen for us already - in the fine-print of Google or Facebook et al, which most of us never take the time to read. How did we let his happen? So seriously, the upshot is that I've installed Ghostery on Firefox. No ads, no popups and as a result my internet browsing speed has increased significantly. Perversely though, this is the only site to-date that I've whitelisted Cheers.
starxplor Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Also there is the noscript addon that blocks all javascript that you dont whitelist(temporarily or permanently) and the age old adblock in various forms(there is a new version lately, i forget the name of it though). All have the ability to whitelist sites and sources. Dont forget you can also deny third party(or all) cookies to avoid tracking from site to site, again with whitelisting for actual functionality. Asian Women Dating Sites (I shouldn't have said that) Did you mean to say that you were searching for a gift certificate for 'a friend'?
