MadMat Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 (edited) I have been looking into crossetes recently, and they look like something I would like to try. I figure I could fabricate something that would work as a pump for them. I am assuming that there is a minimum size star for a decent effect. If my assumption is correct what is that size? alvin001 Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 3/4" is about the smallest crossetes thst work. Smaller have a tendency to brake during production.
Andres1511 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 20 mm (3/4") is indeed the smallest. I've got a 20mm crosette pump en they are fairly easy to make, just don't make it too wet.Where I'm having troubles with is the following: My crossettes often don't break. You have to make sure your BM is in the right place, it's quality BM, and you use a sensitive enough flash composition (like 7/3 GD). Also, to prevent the flash from clumping, add a little really fine BP in your break. But not to much, or the crossette won't break... But if they work, they're awesome
dynomike1 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Andres How much flash are you using, and what type of pump have you got? I put a 22mag. hull of 70/30/10 in mine and never had a problem. Edited November 2, 2015 by dynomike1
PIL Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I've successfully made 15mm crossettes with a brass crossette pump. It's important to ensure that the diameter of the sleeve at the bottom is slightly larger than the top. After consolidation, you push out the crossette .Then you drag the pin ,leaving the crossette loosely stuck in the sleeve
