marks265 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I shot this shell this last weekend. It was originally meant for the Lakeshoot. I waited all summer to put this one up. It was worth the wait. I'm hoping for a video from a different source so this will have to do for now. The salute barrage in the second break was a blast! Snail Mark 1
gregh Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 That was awesome even with the poor video quality Mark. I will be looking forward to seeing a better video. Great work!
Merlin Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 That was spectacular! I'm only up to fives. It's really professional in the 10 with those multiple effects.
dynomike1 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Hell of a bottom shot. I have been working on that first effect with a Farfella.
bpman Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Beautiful shell. Care to share build details
pyrokid Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Beautiful shell! What was the composition for the color stars?
marks265 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Thanks for the great comments. So this shell was a 2 break ten inch that weighed just over 40 pounds. It was made Maltese style. I shot it with 1 pound 9 ounces of powder under it. The first break was filled with 33 shells of 1-3/4" inserts. So it stacked out to be 3 rings of 11 inserts. The inserts had emerald green and ruby red cut stars in them. The inserts were also side fused with drilled back spolettes. The second break spit out 8 each 4" nominal salutes also timed with drilled back spolettes. If I were to critique this as hard as I am on myself I would call the shell mediocre or slightly better. It's how I get myself to be better. Some of the inserts went right at the burst of the shell. You can see a single one in the beginning and I think some red ones went in the break because the second half of the snail was a little sparse. Next the shells broke pretty hard but the circle was a little small which means the inserts should have been smaller for the break used. The second break had 4 salutes .100" longer timing than the other 4 spolette timing group. I hadn't had a long hanging shell in a while and it felt good to watch the second break fall aways before bursting and then watch the 8 salutes fall aways after the break. Had you been there is was one of those moments to put you a bit on your seat. It felt good when the shell finished well high enough above the ground! Mark
