cplmac Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 A maroon shell is basically just a daytime areal salute/smoke.
victor Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 How large size of them? Over 8 inches or not? And who has the picture?
Frozentech Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 How large size of them? Over 8 inches or not? And who has the picture?Victor, they are just a single loud report. An ordinary aerial salute. As for size, there are limits in various countries as to how large they can be. In the United States, most of them are 2.5" to 5" in size. There are different limits on size by state even, I believe most are limited to 5 or 6 inches, but check the NFPA regulations to be certain. hst45 Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 And why is it called a maroon, you ask? O.K., no one asked, but I was interested so I researched it. According to COPAE, it's from the French word marron, which means chestnut, which have a tendency to "explode" while roasting. They were developed as either ground or areal loud salutes to disorient enemy combatants, in the manner of a modern "flash-bang".
