mabuse00 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I guess most of us have experienced that some time. You've kept all windows shut, but some way a mosquito has found it's way into your sleeping place. No matter how good you hide, they'll find you, again and again, and the night is already to short... Or you're doing something outside and a swarm of horse flys is after you. Haematopota pluvialis is pretty common here, and these bitches hurt! Last year I crashed a really nice RC Plane because several of these hung in my face. Or a common house fly, they dont do no harm, but pester you again and again, even if you dont stink... First it sits on a pile of dogshit, next it sits on me or my food. But since I got my new bugzapper the tide has turned I've got one of the better models, equivalent to what is sold as "Executioner". These models have a much better transformer + a voltage multiplier, compared to the 2-3€ things from the supermarket. I changed the stock storage capacitor from 47 to 220nF, when I charge it for 2 seconds and hit a mosquito it gives a crack like a crumb of lead azide - BANG - and makes me happy like a kid.The mosquito is not just dead, but it explodes. The bigger horse flys need a good blow and a second coup de grace. Wow, this is so cool. It's judgement day now for these little bitches. I smell their smoke and enjoy the barbecue, bang-brrrzzz and the smile on my face gets bigger and bigger Next tuning step will be a CCFL inverter from a Laptop display (waste product of a my little EBW project) and more capacitance. This should give even more current on the grid. Only the space in the handle is a challenge. Is it just me being such a childish idiot? What do you use, and how did you pimp it up? PS:I do not use this to slaughter any insect crossing my path. I really love the variety of nature. There's no reason to kill wasps or hornets ect. I always catch them alive and throw em out. This is about pest control. Just self defence. 2
Jakenbake Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I have always wanted to do the same to the stationary zappers I just lacked the know how.
mabuse00 Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Stationary zapper kill arbitrarily, and they always attract more and more...I don't see the use of these things. Get an "Executioner" racket and put a larger storage cap in there. You'll like it.
Nessalco Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I was given a zapper racket a couple years ago, and love it. It is especially handy for wasps in the house, who were a plague last year.
