TheEngineer Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 Maybe irrelevant ... But I have seen only flash based burst charges in commercial 3" shells of India .Coming to the Lift Charge , I have seen granulated Gunpowder in Bottom fused shells and flash lift in top fused ones . The common flash used are 5/3/2 KNO3/Pyro999Al/Sulfur And4/1.5/1.5Ba(NO3)2/Pyro999Al/Sulfur .Thank you .
royster Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 (edited) Im quite new to pyro and i can tell from my experience this evening that too much flash will schmeer your beautiful stars to complete disappointment. I can probably count on 5 hands how many shells i have made in my lifetime, and those were the most disappointing ones so far, i tried to cut corners, using the "bulk" method, or shall i say the lazy method, didnt work out that great for me, luckily i had some canister shells that made me feel a little better. I think what i have learned today is that the bp coated rice hulls are not just there to fill the shell up or for the burst, they also cushion the stars from the violent force and heat of the flash upon ignition. And al instead of magnalium in winokur 20 is not so sexy. Daaaang i didnt realize how old this topic is 😆 Edited October 19, 2020 by royster
