NotBadAtAllToBeHonest Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 What is your guys experience with this combination? Earlier today I had made a very small quantity of mix in 50/50 and lit it on a piece of paper. To my surprise it burnt somewhat quickly and made a reassuring "poof". I am well aware that magnesium is bad for long term storage and degrades over time, and that sulphur increases sensitivity of flash comps. But do any of you guys out there know of its sensitivity and how reliable it is, for making and then using straight after?
taiwanluthiers Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 magnesium can turn a lot of commonly inert materials (like calcium carbonate) into an oxidizer. Also sulphur can have redox reactions with various metals, such as zinc so I wouldn't be surprised that it reacted with Mg.
schroedinger Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 treat your magnesium or coat it !That would just surpress the in this case wanted reaction.
screentoppers Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 That would just surpress the in this case wanted reaction.well most, slow? do so here it is if you like http://pyrodata.com/chemicals/Potassium-dichromate
schroedinger Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 well most, slow? do so here it is if you like http://pyrodata.com/chemicals/Potassium-dichromateWhat do you want to say with that sentence, it doesn't make any sense.
screentoppers Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 What do you want to say with that sentence, it doesn't make any sense. No i wouldnt think you would know 1
Mumbles Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 While I find it amusing for Schroedinger of all people to be question people on their spelling or sentence structure, I have to side with him. That post is just a string of words that doesn't really make sense.
screentoppers Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 just maybe it wasnt directed at either of you.Mumbles keep on topic.Set the example!Wisdom is a blessing not to be shared by all,Understand?
NotBadAtAllToBeHonest Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 Anyone actually know how sensitive this mix is. Is it likely to spontaneously explode when mixed if the mg is coated or treated with something like dichromate? Please shed some light on the reliability of this mix compared the popular mix of perchlorate and al.
