Hillbilly66 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Got ya. It seems flash powder gets the most hits so I ....... You get the point. I'm a retail stand owner and believe I'm ready for the next step,, getting a license so I can do shows. I'm not into making of the shells , just the show with music. Is there courses one would take located in the oklahoma region? Are any of the current APC members part of any clubs in oklahoma are near by? Looking for a mentor I reckon. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you and have a good evening. Oh and my flash powder experience consists of old 80's black cats we would purchase in Chinatown in San Francisco. Quick fuses, but boy were they good.
nater Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 The best way to learn about doing shows would be to get on a crew with a local display company. Perhaps if you start a thread with the appropriate title you will find some better help. 1
Hillbilly66 Posted July 15, 2015 Author Posted July 15, 2015 Not much of a sense if humor there huh nater? Lighten up. My god
nater Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Some actually use the search function or read titles for relevant topics. Nonetheless, the best way to learn about shooting shows to music is to start working with the crews who shoot your local shows. Look for shooter schools advertised and sign up. The PGI website runs a list of their Display Operator Course on their website. The big companies like Pyrotechnico,Zambelli or Extreme Pyrotechnics often offer their own courses too. Most are in late winter / early spring to prepare for the shoot season ahead. You will learn basic safety and about NFPA 1123 which is the set of regulations for a display operator. Learning about the artistic side of a show is done by practice and learning from others on site or in clubs. In many states one can just get an ATF permit, buy product, obtain a local permit and fire away, other states require lead license in order to legally fire single shell or show. In either case, getting experience with a display company is wise when you want to take the step to big shells. Display product is serious stuff and needs to be taken seriously. Mishaps result in serious injuries, death and even jail. An accident won't just ruin your day, but could ruin your life. That said, it is a lot of fun and it is very rewarding to hear the crowd cheer after a long day or weekend preparing for one 20 minute show. 1
ddewees Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 You'll find a lot of pyromusical info on pyrouniverse and pyrofan forums.
