Wiley Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Looks like you need more tension in your string; it should be just shy of breaking as you apply it. Did you use a spiking horse? I have a picture of a crude one in my gallery: http://www.amateurpyro.com/forums/gallery/image/3142-making-a-bottom-shot/ Just affix two "posts" to something very solid, then wind your string snugly onto it in a figure 8 pattern. This setup allows you to pull that string tight enough.
DaMounty Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 I was using my foot to hold the tension on the line. Going to construct a spiking horse. Thanks
oldspark Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Question for you DaMounty (or anybody) is that string way bigger then you need?
DaMounty Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 It's all I had on hand. I am thinking that it is to big. Don't know if I should re-spike with 20lb? DaM
Wiley Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 If the shell fits in the gun, it should be fine. I use two strands of 20# hemp from Hobby Lobby, and I'm happy with my breaks.
nater Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Is the shell filled solidly? It looks lumpy. I would respike it with more tension on the string.like Wiley said, the string should be almost at the breaking point as you spike a shell.
DaMounty Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 She's packed tight with a few lumps near the ends. Came about while spiking.
