froggyb99 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I am using the Veline stars and i rolled a batch of stars a few weeks ago. I was in a hurry for them to dry so I used straight rubbing alcohol. The stars turned out fine but they seem brittle. I used the same boost as i did with my tiger tail stars but the veline stars would just crush up. would it help to use 50/50 water and alcohol or is there a better way to make veline stars. i added 4% dextrin to roll them
pyrokid Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Dextrin is not activated by alcohol, so it is important that your solvent contains enough water to activate the dextrin. When I roll dextrin bound stars, I start with 100% water, then add just a few percent alcohol to break surface tension.
schroedinger Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 If you make veline stars and want to bind with ethanol, you need to substitute the dextrin with shellac, then they work very good.
braddsn Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 75% H20 25% Isopropyl Alcohol. Perfect for dex bound stars.
gregh Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Or you could replace the dextrin with more redgum and continue to bind with alcohol.
