BengalFlair Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 (edited) It's rather hot and dry weather right here which is favourable for making strontium nitrate based stars,so made some and fired a 70 mm shell and would like to share with you. Edited May 6, 2015 by BengalFlair 1
BengalFlair Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Thank you Due to non-availability of plastic and paper hemis right here I usually make newspaper hemis myself or use plastic kids’ balls for my shells. This shell was made of ordinary plastic ball for kids. I cut the ball in two halves and made a hole for spollette and fixed it with glue. After loading the shell I mated two halves firmly and fixed it with masking tape. Then I applied two layers of kraft paper and finally pasted with two circular pieces of cotton fabric and wood glue from pole to pole. So it may be called a hybrid shell.
sora Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Great one Ben, as usual. The pink fuse looks a bit uncommon, is that handmade too? Thanks
BengalFlair Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 Thank you The pink fuse is not homemade. It’s actually a visco fuse with burn rate of about 3sec/inch which is recently available right here.
debubisu Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Viscos are being available? Thats great news indeed.where i go for visco fuse in bengal
asdercks Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 (edited) How are you pasting your shells and what are you using? in the vid it looks like some sort of fabric?Nice shell by the way!!!!!!! Edited June 21, 2015 by asdercks
BengalFlair Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 @debubisu I think you actually wanted to know the composition of stars. It was a slight variation of ‘independencered’ and regarding visco, I don’t know the right location as I got it from a friend. @asdercks Thank you Please check out post #3 for your answer.
sora Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 (edited) Dear Ben, Did you use Parlon in the modified version of "Independance Red"? If so, under what name it is sold there? Edited June 21, 2015 by sora

BengalFlair Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Dear Ben, Did you use Parlon in the modified version of "Independance Red"? If so, under what name it is sold there? 'Chlorinated rubber', 'Chlorub'.
Shunt Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 "Then I applied two layers of kraft paper and finally pasted with two circular pieces of cotton fabric and wood glue from pole to pole. Glad to see my thoughts might be in the right direction, as it worked out quite well for you!
dynomike1 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Good looking shell. I see i am not the only one using Dixie cups.

BengalFlair Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 hi ,bengalFlairi came back again. i want to know ,can i substitute pine resin with redgum and pvc powder for parlon in this star formula ? because these are not available here. You can substitute shellac for redgum and pvc for parlon but you will have to change the proportion of the ingredients of the composition especially mgal and pvc to achieve an acceptable red star. Following would be a good start for you-Strontium nitrate-50Magnalium50/50 (200 m)-22PVC-12Shellac-10dextrin-6
debubisu Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 can i add a little percentage(4 to 6%) of sulfur for burning speed up ?
