Easy, most that I have seen were multiple tube devices like cakes. Fuse the end of one fountain to ignite another fountain or mine.

Another interesting idea is to set a tube fountain inside a mortar with the mine and use a fuse running from the bottom of the fountain to a small lift charge on top of the mine to expel the fountain tube and light the mine. Fire proofing is important here so that the fountain doesn't light the mine when ejected.

 

It was a real fun class c item I saw a few years back and should be scalable.

I think I know which device Dag is referring to, I had a case of them. I never liked the spent fountain tube firing in the air, but it did work.

Nater's idea seems right. It reminds me a bit of a cheap consumer cake called a merlin's curse. They use a central tube with a fountain rammed in it and 6 or 7 tubes around it for a little shell.
