BillyBobBodean Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 As I've stated before, I have built quite a few 3", 4", and even a couple 6" ball shells. I have always used BP coated rice hulls for my shell breaks. I am comfortable when assembling the shells as far a friction and pressure is concerned when using BP, I take all precautions. I am now wanting to build smaller 1 3/4 shells (trying to get away from commercial fireworks completely) and am wondering about the break charge in such a small shell. I am not ready for flash powder, but am wondering about whistle mix (70% potassium perchlorate, 30% potassium benzoate) added to the break. Just how sensitive is "whistle mix" to friction/pressure when adding to a shell? Thanks!
dagabu Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Just keep in mind that any of the compositions are friction and impact sensitive, use caution, don't over do it and wear PPE. Whistle is common in shells as a booster. 2
