mikeee Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Now or back in the day, and which country of origin. Different countries had different requirements, still do.
taiwanluthiers Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I mean in the US. I'm not sure if the US require muzzleloaders to be proof tested. Some even said muzzleloaders are often made of inferior steel and thus can't shoot smokeless at all. But then again a lot of low pressure rifle rounds out there (like the .45-70 Govt) was originally blackpowder but successfully transitioned to smokeless. So assuming you had a .45 caliber muzzleloader why can't you use the same low pressure 45-70 govt load in those muzzleloader? I mean you can't measure by volume like blackpowder but still...
mikeee Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Turning another set of round wooden balls to use on the Wasp & Hornet machines. Also spent a little time on the metal lathe making stinger spindles.
mikeee Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Made some adapters for fountain cones to use on top of rocket motors for headers.
mikeee Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Mounted some wheels on my hydraulic press to make it easier moving around in the shop and loading into a vehicle for club shoots. Next project is adding handles to the top of the cylinder.
mikeee Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) Finished mounting a set of handles to the top of my hydraulic press. This really makes it easy to move around the shop and load into a truck. Edited May 30, 2015 by mikeee
calebkessinger Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Making ignots so I can make more lead balls! Planning on taking at least 1000 lbs of them to pgi to sell !!
Rocketier Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) Made a new stainlesssteel 304 rockettool set for a 19.6mm id bp motor. Tube length 190mm.The spindle has to be shortened a 15mm. Take that of tomorrow. Made a batch 60/30/10 rocketfuel and w39j for delay. Edited June 1, 2015 by Rocketier 1
Ubehage Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I am getting ready for a friend's birthday and solstice. On the same day.Have made 25 small shots with Titanium-tail and crackle in the end. I am still on beginners-stage, but learning slowly. Much thanks to you guys. http://i.imgur.com/RGkxu4b.jpg

hmcindie Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 We did this video for a competition. Decided to focus on a bit pyro instead of a story (and tractor drifiting!) hope you guys enjoy! 1

OldMarine Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Finally! Just pressed my first titanium gerbs. 3# tube using Wolter tube support and tooling. Camera washed out the charcoal sparks but they were as awesome as the metal. These were 10" I tried a couple of 5" ones earlier but didn't get video. Gotta get a bigger card for my DSLR camera. lloyd Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Hey, Jar-head! I'm IMPRESSED! I'm especially impressed by the fact that they didn't chuff or choke up. You did good. If I were to improve anything about those, it would be to just reduce the Ti particle size some, so it didn't rain down quite so much! But they didn't light any fires! Those were good gerbs, son! Pretty, too! Lloyd
OldMarine Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Thanks! That's the only titanium I have. I bought the spherical because I planned on hand ramming. I think I'll put the rest on the fenceposts to light. What mesh metal would you recommend?
lloyd Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) -40+80 sponge works very nicely in that size of gerb. But, if you'll screen-classify that spheroidal stuff, -60 will work just about as well. Lloyd Edited December 19, 2015 by lloyd
OldMarine Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) I'll just order me some. The 1" tubes eat up some materials. Edit: Guess I won't, titanium sponge is apparently converting to unobtanium. Edited December 19, 2015 by OldMarine
OldMarine Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 MY SON BETTER MARRY THIS GIRL! I took my soon to be daughter-in-law shopping today rather than buy her something she'd hate. After we returned home and were wrapping some things for the grandbaby she turned to me and asked "should I save the tubes for you?". Yeah, he better marry her.
lloyd Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Oh... man! If you must, commit bigamy, and YOU marry her! <G>Lloyd
OldMarine Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Oh... man! If you must, commit bigamy, and YOU marry her! <G>Lloyd She's a small town Michigan UP girl and I only wish I could have found one like that back in the day.She was spending MY MONEY and still was grimacing at price tags. I had to watch her close and grab whatever lit her eyes up. Still came in a little less than $100 under what I'd budgeted. Yup, he better marry her or I'll be my granddaughter's daddy and grandpa.Just like in Kentucky! P.S. I have yet to locate any 40-80 titanium sponge. Have they quit making it? Is FeTi similar?
