It'll serve well as a fish cleaning table too!

As a plumber he's got outdoor plumbing as wel as indoor plumbing. I really like it. I need to walk nearly 100yards to get to my garden hose so something like that would save me a lot of time.

Got everything ready to start building...

Should have enough stars to make at least a dozen unique 3" round shell rocket headers.

I like those containers you have your powder in. Where did you get them?

The larger 2 are 10 litre buckets, you can find them in tackle shops for bait... I think I got mine from ebay (in the UK).

Haha pyro bait? Hold on a second, I think you've hooked a marine. They are nice tubs, I use 5 gallon buckets and only scoop out what I'll need in a peanut butter jar.

Hi, I'm old Marine and I'm a container-O-holic.

I too have scads of pool chlorine buckets (screw on lids) and am a passionate lover of all things Rubbermaid!

On a more pertinent point: Made a pile of strobe pots and smoke for the backline at my Grandbaby's birthday show. They'll store nicely and I'll wait to build the more perishable items as the day gets closer. She loves Grandpatty's fireworks!

yesterday... rammed 8 motors, built 16 headers, finished priming a batch of red Mg stars, started coating DE cores with green. Tested my violet formula in daylight.

I couldn't find a purple using the chems on hand so I fudged one. When I get a night video to show the colour, I'll post the formula in "compositions".

So much more to do before Saturday.

Good luck with the guns memo.

I picked up the fittings to pipe my shop dehumidifier to an outside reservoir. I'll pump that water through a filter to serve my little outdoor sink. With our humidity I'll have in excess of 10 gallons a week easily. Added to the rain barrel, I should have ample water for both comps and washing up with no chlorine, lime, calcium or fluoride in there. Oh and it's free!

I wish I had better luck with my photos om , tried to edit the photos and ended up with 2 sets of crappy photos

post-19579-0-80599700-1473523681_thumb.jpgi finished the 4 tubes and a shell for the 6 inch. it weighs in at about 6 kilos . this should be a good test

That's one hell of a shell. I was wondering if you ever had a chance to use your new tubes. Be sure to take video.

Made a crude but functional tool from some delrin rod for 10mm ID x 60mm long serpents...

http://pyrobin.com/files/tool%202.jpg

There's a sleeve, 15mm long spindle/base and beveled rammer.

I've not made any serpents with it yet, but I used a smaller off-cut section of sleeve and the rammer to try making some hummers...

Although they do make quite a high pitched whizzing sound, the tubes are too weak and quickly fail before they really get going(splitting along the entire length) so it's more of a whizz-bang.

Think I'm going to need to either dial these back, find some thicker tubes or role my own to get these to work properly.

I've got some 20 and 50mm Acetal round bar stock laying around and was thinking of making a 20mm crossette tool on the drill press, this is probably a bit too ambitious but I'd like to give it a go anyway.

I'm not certain about the cavity dimensions, but I knocked up a quick plan on sketchup which looks about right...

http://pyrobin.com/files/Crossette%20Tool%20Plan_1.jpg

I would drill the 12mm holes at a 3° angle towards the center. What do we think?...

Eh... in the long run, a square cavity former works just as well as a cruciform style, it's lots easier to make, and lasts longer.

(but you'd want to drill them from nearer center AWAY from center, not 'toward' center)

I've edited the plan for clarification, it doesn't look too difficult on paper.. if it doesn't turn out that way I'll try a square cavity like you suggest, but do the cavity dimensions look OK?

Posted

For small crossettes, I make the (square) cavity about 1/3 the o.d. of the comet, and about .75-1.0 x o.d. deep.

Those stars turned out beautiful, I cannot get my corners to stay in tact like yours, especially with a glitter. It looks like you could use a cheese slicer on that block.

Using a loaf box helps with that. The comp doesn't need to be as wet as with rolling out a patty, and the corners stay sharper. A sharp knife with a thin blade also helps.

What DID you cut those with Dag?
