joeyz Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 marine, thats pretty cool, a portable table with a built in sink? i never seen that before, excellent for field use.
OldMarine Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 It'll serve well as a fish cleaning table too!
NeighborJ Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 As a plumber he's got outdoor plumbing as wel as indoor plumbing. I really like it. I need to walk nearly 100yards to get to my garden hose so something like that would save me a lot of time. 1
OldMarine Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 WallyWorld carries them:https://www.walmart.com/ip/45032624?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227032802241&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=t&wl3=66579560072&wl4=pla-130448850752&wl5=9013130&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=45032624&wl13=&veh=sem
Pyrophury Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Got everything ready to start building... http://pyrobin.com/files/rocket%20stuff%20s.jpg Should have enough stars to make at least a dozen unique 3" round shell rocket headers.
OldMarine Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I like those containers you have your powder in. Where did you get them?
Pyrophury Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I like those containers you have your powder in. Where did you get them? The larger 2 are 10 litre buckets, you can find them in tackle shops for bait... I think I got mine from ebay (in the UK).
NeighborJ Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Haha pyro bait? Hold on a second, I think you've hooked a marine. They are nice tubs, I use 5 gallon buckets and only scoop out what I'll need in a peanut butter jar.
OldMarine Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 (edited) Hi, I'm old Marine and I'm a container-O-holic. I too have scads of pool chlorine buckets (screw on lids) and am a passionate lover of all things Rubbermaid! On a more pertinent point: Made a pile of strobe pots and smoke for the backline at my Grandbaby's birthday show. They'll store nicely and I'll wait to build the more perishable items as the day gets closer. She loves Grandpatty's fireworks! Edited August 28, 2016 by OldMarine
carbonhalo Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 yesterday... rammed 8 motors, built 16 headers, finished priming a batch of red Mg stars, started coating DE cores with green. Tested my violet formula in daylight.I couldn't find a purple using the chems on hand so I fudged one. When I get a night video to show the colour, I'll post the formula in "compositions". So much more to do before Saturday.
memo Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 I took my 6 " hdpe tube and I hope made it a bit stronger, I used the rats nest type fiber and glassed in the bottom and up the sides about 18 ". then I used the mat type fiber and put 6 layers 2 kilos worth and 3 liters of glass. it has a extra long bung also. hope this will stop my tubes from blowing up. it only happens when I am shooting multi break shells.
OldMarine Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Good luck with the guns memo.I picked up the fittings to pipe my shop dehumidifier to an outside reservoir. I'll pump that water through a filter to serve my little outdoor sink. With our humidity I'll have in excess of 10 gallons a week easily. Added to the rain barrel, I should have ample water for both comps and washing up with no chlorine, lime, calcium or fluoride in there. Oh and it's free!
memo Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I wish I had better luck with my photos om , tried to edit the photos and ended up with 2 sets of crappy photos
memo Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 i finished the 4 tubes and a shell for the 6 inch. it weighs in at about 6 kilos . this should be a good test
NeighborJ Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 That's one hell of a shell. I was wondering if you ever had a chance to use your new tubes. Be sure to take video.
Pyrophury Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Made a crude but functional tool from some delrin rod for 10mm ID x 60mm long serpents... http://pyrobin.com/files/tool%202.jpg There's a sleeve, 15mm long spindle/base and beveled rammer. I've not made any serpents with it yet, but I used a smaller off-cut section of sleeve and the rammer to try making some hummers... http://pyrobin.com/files/tool%201.jpg Although they do make quite a high pitched whizzing sound, the tubes are too weak and quickly fail before they really get going(splitting along the entire length) so it's more of a whizz-bang. Think I'm going to need to either dial these back, find some thicker tubes or role my own to get these to work properly. 1
Pyrophury Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 (edited) I've got some 20 and 50mm Acetal round bar stock laying around and was thinking of making a 20mm crossette tool on the drill press, this is probably a bit too ambitious but I'd like to give it a go anyway. I'm not certain about the cavity dimensions, but I knocked up a quick plan on sketchup which looks about right... http://pyrobin.com/files/Crossette%20Tool%20Plan_1.jpg I would drill the 12mm holes at a 3° angle towards the center. What do we think?... Edited September 13, 2016 by Pyrophury
lloyd Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Eh... in the long run, a square cavity former works just as well as a cruciform style, it's lots easier to make, and lasts longer. (but you'd want to drill them from nearer center AWAY from center, not 'toward' center) Lloyd
Pyrophury Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Eh... in the long run, a square cavity former works just as well as a cruciform style, it's lots easier to make, and lasts longer. (but you'd want to drill them from nearer center AWAY from center, not 'toward' center) Lloyd I've edited the plan for clarification, it doesn't look too difficult on paper.. if it doesn't turn out that way I'll try a square cavity like you suggest, but do the cavity dimensions look OK?
lloyd Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 For small crossettes, I make the (square) cavity about 1/3 the o.d. of the comet, and about .75-1.0 x o.d. deep. Lloyd
memo Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 (edited) made a 150 meters of black match. made 5- 4inch shells and 1- 3 inch , need to paste them in the morning, also made 3 break with bs that need pasting and the last shell I made was a 5inch. pasting like crazy in the morning. dagabu Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) More cut stars for shells. Edited September 16, 2016 by dagabu 5
NeighborJ Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Those stars turned out beautiful, I cannot get my corners to stay in tact like yours, especially with a glitter. It looks like you could use a cheese slicer on that block.
Mumbles Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Using a loaf box helps with that. The comp doesn't need to be as wet as with rolling out a patty, and the corners stay sharper. A sharp knife with a thin blade also helps.
