pyrodoc Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Hi seniors, What can be the possible composition of this crackling fountain? Also, how is this firefly effect produced starting from 1:05 minutes onwards? Regards Pyrodoc
Mortartube Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 LOTS of coarse magnalium added to a gunpowder or better still Barium Nitrate based fountain can give a good crackle. about 20% would be a good start point. The second effect is a strobe or blinker Bengal. Many are Ammonium Perchlorate based but an easy Nitrate based one is listed here. http://www.cannonfuse.com/store/pc/Pyrotechnic-Projects-Strobe-Pots-d17.htm
pyrodoc Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 Hi Col, Got hold of this article from skylighter. http://www.skylighter.com/fireworks/how-to-make/fireworks-strobe-pots.asp Looks like perc is required. I dont want to get into percs. Any comp without them and i will be happy.
pyrodoc Posted December 25, 2014 Author Posted December 25, 2014 http://www.cannonfuse.com/store/pc/Pyrotechnic-Projects-Strobe-Pots-d17.htm Is this a good formula? Has anyone tried this?
Col Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) I havent used that one but the white strobe in Jopetes spanish pdf is a similar comp and its a good one. The MgAl in the canonfuse formula is coarser so i guess the strobe rate may be a tad slower than Jopetes. Zumber Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Pyrodoc try hardt strobe formula for strobe pots with 100 mesh magnelium for slow strobe rate and with 200mesh magnelium for faster strobe rate.
Titanium Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 The formula on cannonfuse is the Blesser White Strobe Formula, I used this and it worked great but Hardt Strobe is also good.If you use coarser MgAl the Strobe gets slower and if you use finer MgAl it gets faster, but if its to fine you just have some kind of white flare
Mortartube Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) This is the easiest strobe pot formula you will find. I have tried it and it works although the flash rate was faster on mine with 4 grams of Parlon. From here http://www.pyrotubes.co.uk/apps/forums/topics/show/7327870 Brilliant Green Strobe formula.50 grams Barium Nitrate10 grams 60 mesh magnalium3-5 grams parlon Edited December 26, 2014 by Mortartube
Mortartube Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 This is a video of the above mix in a thin kraft paper tube so you can see the flash rate. About 20 grams of mix. Sorry it's on its side. My fault. Green Blinker Bengal 2014.mp4
MWJ Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Ok guys, I would love to make some of these but all I have is Barium Carbonate. Is there a way to make that work? I made up 10 gr. and it does pop a bit but it still has to dry to be sure if it will.
