zakmaster524
After the top layer of clay, what is the procedure for tipping rockets with flash powder. Also, how much should be used?
ddewees
As long as you have enough propellant above the spindle, you can skip the clay bulkhead all together... gives you more room for flash. Fill the remainder of the tube up to the top, and tape over with some heavy foil tape or something similar. MrB
I happily missed the gory pics. Anyway, as ddewees says, you can skip the clay bulkhead, but actually putting it in provides a better confinement for the salute, which may, or may not result in a different boom. Mostly dictated by the tube your using. If it can last a tiny bit longer, or not.But not using a clay bulkhead means you get a lot more fire, harder to light flash compositions might mean that is an advantage. As always, trial and error, see what works best for you.If using a clay bulkhead, the "procedure" is, use a sharp drilling bit, turn it by hand to make a hole through the clay, and slightly in to the composition. Fill the cavity with flash, anyway you like / can. and cap it off.B!
