AzoMittle Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Could AN be treated with a wax/resin/oil/dichromate similar to magnesium? Wouldn't this help prevent moisture absorption? If AN did not have its known issues with moisture would it potentially have any use for pyro? How hard would it be to keep the reaction rate slow and usable? In the meantime I'll keep using it on my lawn and garden.
FlaMtnBkr Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It might slow it but it will still occur over time. It's also not a great oxidizer compared to the normal ones used in pyro. Not sure what it could be used for besides maybe smoke. One of the biggest accidents with AN involved a ship full of wax coated AN off the coast of Texas. It sensitizes AN, adds a fuel, and that accident stopped it's use commercially.
