alpinecb Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Hi Guys Charles here, Still pretty new to this but been making black powder and whistle rockets with small reports. My plan is to have strobe rockets to shoot new years eve. Just got all my materials in and hope my arbor press is strong enough for strobe mix. It seems to work great for my hand rolled .700" tubes on whistle and black powder rockets. I use poly coated 50 lbs virgin kraft rolled on 1/2" emt conduit baked in an oven at 300F for about 20 minutes until the PE soaks into the paper. OD is about 1" with ID of .700". Hope to make tiger willow stars also. Sorry to get off topic (my own)! Happy Thanksgiving and feel free to share your plans. Peace!
taiwanluthiers Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I can't... I'll be in California and you know how they are with fireworks.
BurritoBandito Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'll be firing some consumer devices this year...
taiwanluthiers Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Maybe I can shoot some "safe n sane" fireworks...
Zumber Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I am planning to prepare few 3 inch shells and test some new stars.
alpinecb Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Yeah, I live in a small subdivision in the bergs. Gonna be interesting to see how the neighbors respond. I live on the edge so I can fire away from any houses.
ddewees Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Don't really like shooting aerials in my neighborhood, so I'm working on making some large diameter fountain/gerbs. Keep debating whether or not to give them a "happy ending". Self cleaning fireworks are always good in my book. http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o588/SaltLakeAreaPyros/Mobile%20Uploads/20141203_001344_resized_zpscb909943.jpg http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o588/SaltLakeAreaPyros/Mobile%20Uploads/20141203_214900_zps4331152d.jpg 1
Pretty green flame Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Those are some mighty fine looking fountains/gerbs ddewees. As for me, just some Kat.4 Italian cyclinders, having a permit has its perks
carbonhalo Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Not a good time of year for fireworks downunder. A few years back it was still 50C (122F) after dark.. spent the night sitting in a cold bath.Since I live in the middle of a forest it is virtually suicidal to to light a cigarette, let alone launch anything.I wish I was closer to the sea.
BurritoBandito Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I think non-smokers might argue that it's a slow suicide to light a cigarette anywhere. ;p 1
db5086 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 For New Years 4 6" shells all D-1,5 4" shells red, blue and willows (my blue sucks), and 8 3" red and greens. That's the plan if I can quit shooting the ones I finish.
Ubehage Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I'll be firing some consumer devices this year... So will I. I still have a lot of work ahead of me, before the workshop is acceptable to the standards I want, aka. think I need. And at this moment, because of winter and weather, I am not making much at all. I do plan to make a buttload of flash-reports/firecrackers, and live out a few boyhood-dreams in the main city (I do not plan to blow shit up. Just make a lot of noise)
mkn Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 SWEET !!! great finish, anything left of the tube?
ddewees Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Actually, yes. It didn't even tip over... Just blew out the plug. Here it is: http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o588/SaltLakeAreaPyros/Mobile%20Uploads/20141208_201224_zps33334704.jpg
rogeryermaw Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 that was pretty awesome! nice happy ending and the green was incredible! hope you had on a welding helmet...
taiwanluthiers Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I don't even think I can do safe and sane here. It is very dry.
BurritoBandito Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I don't even think I can do safe and sane here. It is very dry.If it's not legally prohibited to use safe and sane devices, you could always put out sprinklers to presoak the area.
taiwanluthiers Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 No, but since California is sorta under a drought, there may be a burn ban in effect. Even BBQ is illegal.
jessoman Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) Tested one last night... That was one heck of a bounce! Loved it! Crikey that was more then a bounce, haha insane. Didn't expect that. Great gerb. Nice green. Edited December 12, 2014 by jessoman
asdercks Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 This year I'll be shooting 45-2" shells (blue, red n' green peony) 10-2.5" (d1 glitter) 5-3" (firefly) plus some small 3/4" id bombette cakes
AldoSPyro Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I live in cali so I dont really have a new year plans, might go out to the desert and set off some consumer stuff
taiwanluthiers Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I'll be glad if I could even light a bonfire...
