braddsn Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 4" Blue peony I shot tonight. The blue was brilliant, my cam doesn't do it justice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBc-WJ1suc0&feature=youtu.be 1
rogeryermaw Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 that IS a pretty blue. nice big break, too. was it boosted? i'm also curious about your fourmula. it looked good and was fairly long burning. im assuming it was organic? lactose maybe?
braddsn Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 The formula is "Pyro Science Blue". It's all over the internet. If you can't find it, I will post it. I would post it now but I don't have my formulas in front of me. Roger that break was boosted with 2g of 70/30. I am not sure if I should be boosting them or not. I am getting pretty hard breaks with no flash at all. I am still experimenting with it.
rogeryermaw Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) Ya the pyroscience blue is readily available. Maybe your cam is better than the phone I have used for recording. I liked the p.s. color but it didn't do well on film as far as brightness. I have found a touch of hexamine, in compatible formula, does wonders to increase the flame envelope and burns cool enough that it doesn't harm blue colors. I'd love that pink formula if it's OK with Mumbles. Not sure about the video, but in the thumbnail, it's quite pretty. Intense pink! My daughter thinks it's awesome! As far as boosting, that's a matter of taste. If you like the spread you're getting, then right on! Your stars seemed to survive so I wouldn't call it over the top or anything. Bobosan Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Very nice blue and great burst, Brad. Going to have to try that Pyro Science and quit messing with this Shimizu junk. Just kidding on the Shimizu part. 1
schroedinger Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Nice shells. Yes pyroscience blue is awesome and works good with different chlorine donors. If someone searches for the formula it is in the apc database
MWJ Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I just made some Pyro Sci. blue stars and was wondering what to expect so this answers my question, so thanks for posting your videos. They look wonderful! I can't wait to try mine out now. KP- 66.1Cuo- 13.4Parlon- 10.7Red gum 9.8Dextrin- 5 This is what I found. 1
enanthate Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 What size stars? Rolled?Nice shell mate, looks like a symmetric break indeed. Just rolled a green comp containing lots of parlon and red gum, it burns white. My question is, are these parloncomps rollable?
db5086 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Very nice. How are they primed if I may ask.
MWJ Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This is how I prime all of my colored stars BP Green mix: 75/15/10 + 3% CMC,First, you need a sub prime: BP base mix, milled for 1 hr. or less then add 10% silicon. Add a thick layer to the stars then let them dry.Second: Use BP green mix, Screen mixed only (not milled) Add a thin layer of this to your stars, let them dry completely.
enanthate Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 If needed, you can also stepprime (for hard to ignite stars). Follow MWJ's method, but between the starcomp and prime you add a layer of starcomp/prime 50/50. Don't understand how my green comp turned white. It was rolled on green strobe, which also strobes pretty white..
braddsn Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Thanks to Xtreme Pyro, I step prime all of my stars (except charcoal stars). I don't have the formula in front of me, but the first step contains Pot Perc, Redgum, Charcoal, MGAL, and Dextrin. Second step is meal prime, MGAL, and Silicon. I have yet to have a problem lighting any star with it.
enanthate Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Same here. I've found that when rolling, steppriming is just as easy as regular priming. Steppriming is more reliable though. 1
